Scarlatti and contemporary music for accordion and electronics. A recital by Panagiotis Andreoglou.
Scarlatti and contemporary music for accordion and electronics
Nexus, a bond or a connection, is the central axis of this recital: a connection between different eras, different aesthetics and different ways of creating sound.
Four sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti meet four twenty-first-century works for accordion, in a programme that moves constantly between past and present. The Scarlatti sonatas act as a first “bond”, building bridges between eighteenth-century music and contemporary creation.
In the works with electronics, Nexus also refers to the meeting of two different sound worlds: the natural, live sound of the accordion and electronically processed sound. Instrument and technology do not act as two separate entities; together they shape a single sound world.
Along the way, the Scarlatti sonatas take on one further role. Placed among the denser and more demanding contemporary works, they act as breathing spaces: moments of return to melody, to clarity and to the immediacy of sound.
Nexus is, in the end, a programme about relationships: between old and new, acoustic and electronic, tension and calm, memory and contemporary creation.
