A site-specific performance with performers and sound installation based on the history and exhibits of Islahane.
Inside the Islahane Technical School, the first accordion is crafted for Midat Pasha. Apprentice craftsmen struggle to find technological solutions for the soul of the instrument—the reedblock. It must sound radiant in both East and West! They summon renowned philosophers, sculptors, tinsmiths, and blacksmiths with sturdy anvils, working feverishly in a fiery atmosphere.
Participants, without needing prior musical or performance experience, will join and be trained in the world of music-making. They will be selected through an open call via the festival’s media channels. The five-day workshop will culminate in a co-created performance with the participants, presented to the audience of Islahane as the opening act of the Festival.
