A tarantella pizzica music band from Greece
Grikanta is an Italian/Greek Folk music band that interprets south-Italian traditional songs with linguistic influences of the ancient Greek dialect. Grikanta was founded in 2015 in Thessaloniki by Pierpaolo Sicuro, a musician and musicologist known for his contribution to the traditional music of Salento (South Italy). The band consists of six people who come from different musical backrounds. The name "Grikanta" comes from the word "griko" (or "grecanico", which is the Greek dialect of Italy) and "canta" (sing). The music of Grikanta has the melodicity of the Greek dialect and the power of the Pizzica rhythm, which is a kind of music that was used as a remedy for spider beating in southern Italy.
